Genetiporc To Expand Sales Operations Into Ontario

Stratford, Monday June 29. Genetiporc has recently signed an important distribution agreement with Jones Feed Mill, a family owned business serving the family farm for over 70 years. This new agreement will allow Genetiporc to develop their sales in conjunction with the well known and respected team at Jones Feed Mill, with the support of Jerry Koert, Ontario sales representative for Genetiporc. An official launch was organized last Wednesday June 24 during the Ontario Pork Congress and more than 60 people attend. Christian Breton, president of Genetiporc and Jeff Jones, president of Jones Feed Mill, took a few minutes to introduce their companies and their plans to work together. more

Charm Sciences Receives 5-Year USDA Contract for Antibiotic Test

Lawrence, MA, July 16, 2009

Charm Sciences, Inc. is pleased to announce a 5-year renewable contract award by the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) to provide Charm KIS™ (Kidney Inhibition Swab) tests to USDA inspectors at slaughter facilities to screen for sulfonamides and antibiotic drugs under the National Residue Program.


FSIS will begin implementing the Charm KIS Test in phases starting with cattle (FSIS notice 50-09), and eventually implement it for all livestock. more

JBS United’s Steve Webel, Receives ASAS Fellow - Industry Award

SHERIDAN, Ind., July 20, 2009 –The American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) has presented JBS United’s Stephen K. Webel with the ASAS Fellow - Industry Award during the ASAS Awards Program held Monday July 13, 2009 as part of the Joint Annual Meeting of ASAS, ADSA, and CSAS in Montreal, Canada. This award recognizes individuals with distinguished service to the animal science and livestock industry over an extended period of time.


Dr. Webel is Director of Reproduction Research and Development for JBS United, Inc. and is an internationally recognized scientist who provided leadership for development of innovative reproductive management programs and products. Dr. Webel served the ASAS as a board of directors member, treasurer, foundation chair and president of the Midwestern Section. His pioneering research contributed to the development of controlled-release steroid implants, orally active progestins, gonadotropins for follicular maturation, dietary omega-3 fatty acid formulations, and numerous proprietary products for estrous cycle regulation and dietary supplements to enhance reproduction. more

Bobcat Company Facility Awarded ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 Registration

Barchart Hires Janelle Brose as Director of Agri-Media Business Development

CHICAGO, IL – (AgPR) – July 15, 2009 – Barchart.com, Inc., a leading provider of market data, information and technology, today announced it has hired Janelle Brose as director of agri-media business development and sales. Brose will be responsible for overseeing Barchart and AgriCharts, the agricultural division of Barchart, agri-media relationships, including website content solutions and other web-based technology services. Brose will also be responsible for further expanding the Barchart and AgriCharts brand within the agri-media industry.


Brose brings a wealth of experience to this role after spending the past 6 years as Michigan Farm Radio Network farm director. Meyer and Keller win The Maschhoffs Pork Production Scholarships

Kayla Meyer of Hinckley, Ill., won a $1,500 scholarship from The Maschhoffs on July 2 at the National Junior Summer Spectacular in Louisville, Ky., for her outstanding leadership and involvement in the swine industry.


Meyer, a recent graduate of Hinckley-Big Rock High School, plans to attend the University of Illinois in the fall where she will major in Agricultural Education. She hopes to one day become an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor in order to help her students reach success in their education, career and personal futures. She would also like to raise showpigs for young showmen and work with them to expand their knowledge of the swine industry. more

CARR HONORED BY AMSA WITH R.C. POLLOCK AWARD

CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, IL— Dr. Tom R. Carr was named the recipient of the 2009 American Meat Science Association (AMSA) R.C. Pollock Award. The award was presented on Tuesday, June 23, at the 62nd Annual Reciprocal Meat Conference held in Rogers, Arkansas. The R. C. Pollock Award is presented in honor of the first general manager of the National Live Stock and Meat Board. Pollock, dedicated to the advancement of meat science, was the moving force in the establishment of the Reciprocal Meat Conference. The award honors a dedicated AMSA member whose work through teaching, extension, research, or service represents an extraordinary and lasting contribution to the meat industry. more

AMSA HONORS MEMBERS DURING ANNUAL RECIPROCAL MEAT CONFERENCE

CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, IL — The American Meat Science Association’s (AMSA) 62nd Annual Reciprocal Meat Conference was held in Rogers, Arkansas. Numerous awards were given to AMSA members during the awards program on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. Among those honored were:


Three young AMSA members were the recipients of the Distinguished Achievement Award. The award was established in 1992 and is designed to recognize and foster the development of young AMSA members who have demonstrated significant scientific skills in muscle foods research and technology that contribute to the animal products industry and the AMSA. The award is sponsored by Cryovac Sealed Air Corporation. more

AMSA HONORS THREE MEMBERS WITH SIGNAL SERVICE AWARD

CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, IL — Ken McMillin, Professor of Animal Sciences and Food Science, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.; Dr. Thayne Dutson, Director of the Sun Grant Western Regional Center and Reuba Long Endowed Professor, Oregon State University; and Dr. Paul T. Berg, Professor of Animal Sciences, North Dakota State University, Fargo, North Dakota, were the recipients of the 2009 American Meat Science Association (AMSA) Signal Service Award. The awards were presented on Tuesday, June 23, at the 62nd Annual Reciprocal Meat Conference held in Rogers, Arkansas. The AMSA Signal Service Award was established in 1956 and is given to members in recognition of devoted service and lasting contributions to the meat industry and to the association. The awards are sponsored by Elanco Animal Health, Johnsonville Sausage Company, and Keystone Foods. more
