Leading animal nutrition conference heading to Singapore in 2012

The 5th World Nutrition Forum breaks tradition by leaving Europe and heading for Asia where it will take place from October 10th to 13th in Singapore.

January 19, 2012 – The World Nutrition Forum, an established event on the animal nutrition industry’s calendar hosted by BIOMIN, is now at its 5th edition and heads for the first time out of Europe, taking place from October 10th to 13th 2012 in Singapore.

The move to Asia signals the importance of this fast growing market, Singapore, the country where “East meets West”, being the ideal location for such a truly international event.

The congress will be attended by more than 700 industry representatives and opinion leaders from all over the world, opening the floor to challenging discussions on and around “NutriEconomics®: Balancing Global Nutrition & Productivity”.

Big Dutchman co-founder passes away at age 100

Jack DeWitt, who founded Big Dutchman in 1938 with his brother, Dick DeWitt, passed away at his home in Zeeland, MI on January 6th, 2012.

While Jack was only 24 days away from turning 101, Big Dutchman, now a worldwide leader in automated poultry and swine production systems is almost ready to celebrate its 75th birthday. Jack DeWitt and his brother Dick DeWitt founded the company in 1938 when they set out to market their invention, which would soon revolutionize the poultry industry. The “Big Dutchman” automated poultry feeder was the first automatic feeding system, featuring the flat chain concept, which remains the most popular poultry feeding technology in the world today. As Dick loved to tell, “we had a pretty good idea that sure beat shoveling out bird feed by hand. We just had to take it out to the rest of the world”.

Anderson joins National Swine Registry as field representative

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The National Swine Registry is pleased to announce the hire of a new field representative. Brian Anderson of Caney, Kan., will promote the purebred use of Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace and Yorkshire swine, as well as provide technical assistance to breeders primarily in the Southwestern region of the U.S.

“Brian brings to the position many years of experience in different facets of the livestock industry,” NSR CEO Clint Schwab says. “He was raised in the purebred swine business, which spurred his obvious passion and understanding of the purebred swine industry. Gillespie leads Marketing & Communications team at the National Swine Registry

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The National Swine Registry (NSR) welcomes Jen Gillespie as the Director of Marketing & Communications.

In this position, Gillespie will oversee the communications division of the NSR, including production of Seedstock EDGE. Additionally, Gillespie will handle media and public relations and pursue marketing opportunities for the NSR through social media and interactive technology.

“I am excited to add someone of Jen’s caliber to the NSR team,” NSR CEO Clint Schwab says. “Her background and experience will prove a valuable resource to NSR members as she leads the Marketing and Communications team. NCGA Announces National Corn Yield Contest Winners for 2011

ST. LOUIS (December 21, 2011) — Advanced production techniques, informed growing practices and improved seed varieties helped corn growers achieve high yields in the National Corn Growers Association 2011 National Corn Yield Contest. Despite the challenging weather conditions that plagued the Corn Belt throughout the year, entrants continued to far surpass the national average corn yield, even doubling it in some circumstances.

The National Corn Yield Contest is in its 47th year and remains NCGA’s most popular program for members. With 8,425 entries, the 2011 NCGA National Corn Yield Contest set a new participation record again this year. This is a 18 percent increase over 2010 (7,125) and an incredible 70 percent increase over 2007 (4,932).

Pfizer to Provide More Than $1 Million to Support FFA Programs

INDIANAPOLIS (Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011/National FFA Foundation) – One of the world’s largest animal health companies will provide more than $1 million in sponsorships of National FFA Organization programs, local chapters and more this year.

New Jersey-based Pfizer Animal Health is one of the largest contributors to the National FFA Foundation Leadership Fund, which provides unrestricted funds for FFA programs. Pfizer Animal Health has funded the development of the new National FFA Veterinary Science Career Development Event and will sponsor the first event in 2012. Through the National Association of Agricultural Educators, Pfizer Animal Health sponsors a series of teacher workshops at the National FFA Convention, which draws more than 50,000 students, advisors and industry professionals each year. Pfizer is a participant in the convention’s Agricultural Career Show and Collegiate Career Expo.
