He will be using his expertise and leadership within the U.S. commercial swine industry as a resource for sales representatives, marketing personnel and fellow technical consultants. WASHINGTON, D.C., August 3, 2011 - The National Farm-City Council, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing links between farm families and urban residents, is now seeking nominations for the first annual Charles Eastin Outstanding Service Award, paying tribute to an outstanding individual who has contributed to Farm-City activities as an advocate for accurate communications between rural and urban audiences.
The award is in honor of Charles “Charlie” Eastin, DVM, who passed away earlier this year and played a fundamental role in Farm-City activities. A board member for many years, Charlie was especially active in planning and initiating Farm-City events in the Lexington, Ky., area.
Nominees to the Charles Eastin Outstanding Service Award can be any person over age 25 who actively has supported national, state or local Farm-City initiatives. He or she can be nominated by anyone active in a Farm-City program.

Grain elevator, animal feed company expands ADM’s footprint in Iowa
Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) today announced the acquisition of English River Pellets, Inc., a grain elevator and animal feed manufacturing business with locations in Kalona and Washington, Iowa. English River Pellets has a combined grain storage capacity of 2.4 million bushels and produces pelleted animal feed for livestock.
“With this acquisition, ADM establishes a strong footprint for our grain origination in Southeast Iowa,” said Joe Taets, president, ADM Grain. “We will use the elevator facilities in Kalona and Washington in part to originate crops for our soybean processing plant in Quincy, Ill., and corn processing plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.”

National Swine Registry partners with Cavite Pig City to deliver swine, genetic support
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The National Swine Registry (NSR) announces the securement of a partnership between America’s Best Genetics - the umbrella organization that represents U.S. breeders who raise purebred swine with a commercial focus and specialize in international exports, and Cavite Pig City near Manila, Philippines. The partnership includes delivery of 645 head of purebred Duroc, Landrace and Yorkshire breeding boars and gilts that arrived July 10 in Cavite, as well as a two-year America’s Best Genetics consulting agreement with geneticists of the National Swine Registry.
